Question about my rental property…Please help!?
January 25, 2010 - 5:04 pm
I am currently renting a unit for $340 per week (Australian Dollars) we have ducted air conditioning, this is one of the reasons we chose this property. Recently the air conditioner stopped working and we organised for the realestate to have it fixed. Over the past 4-5 days there has been a heat wave(38 to 43 degrees celcius) so the unit was not livinable as it was like a suana for about 4 to 5 days, we had to move into my partners parents house. Am I able to get compensated in rent as the house was not livinable?
Thanks
I don’t think you’d be able to get compensated. The house was able to be lived in. You could’ve got fans to use.

Talk to your landlord and ask if they will deduct rent for the days you could not live there due to the AC problem!

Really wouldn’t be worth the expense and aggravation. Just chalk it up to snake eyes and relax. Just give him a daily call ’til he relents and repairs the unit(s).

Airconditioning is an added extra – if there was no water or electricity then yes you could get compensated but not for airconditioning.
